As a 12-year veteran in the toy industry and a 5-year Alibaba Gold Supplier, and focused on STEM and STEAM education, we were excited to explore the possibility of expanding our reach by selling our products on Alibaba’s international platform. However, after careful consideration, we ultimately decided not to pursue this option.

First, it’s important to note that our decision has nothing to do with the level of competition or profitability on Alibaba International. Instead, our concern is that the platform’s vast array of products makes it difficult for customers to identify quality products and meet their specific needs. As a company that prides ourselves on our high-quality offerings and personalized customer service, we felt that our products would be best showcased and sold through other channels.

While there are many honest and reliable sellers on Alibaba, the sheer volume of sellers and the anonymous nature of the platform makes it difficult for buyers to know who to trust. Similarly, sellers are often hesitant to issue refunds or take other actions that may be seen as detrimental to their business for fear of negative reviews or other repercussions.

Furthermore, the sheer number of products available on Alibaba makes it difficult for buyers to navigate and identify high-quality products. As a seller, it can also be challenging to stand out from the competition and establish a reputation for quality and reliability.

Given these challenges, we decided that our energy would be better spent focusing on our own website and establishing a strong reputation for quality and reliability among our customers. We believe that by providing excellent customer service and high-quality products, we can build trust with our customers and differentiate ourselves from the competition.

Additionally, we believe that focusing on an online platform like Alibaba International would detract from our ability to invest time and energy into our primary focus: our customers. We want to devote our resources to serving our customers in the best possible way, which includes being available to answer questions, provide guidance, and offer personalized recommendations. By avoiding the distraction of an online marketplace, we can better focus on what we do best: providing top-notch STEM and STEAM education products and services.

We have found that attending trade shows and other events allows us to connect with potential customers in a more personal and meaningful way. By engaging with our customers directly, we can better understand their needs and develop products that meet their specific requirements.

Overall, while we recognize that Alibaba may work well for some businesses, we believe that our focus on providing exceptional customer service and high-quality products is better served by establishing our own website and attending trade shows.
